This small board has been designed to convert TTL (Transistor-Transistor Logic) level signals to RS-232 interface and vice versa. The module is populated with MAX3232 ic from MAXIM, which help us to use either 5V or 3V3 as interfacing voltages. This allows the user to develop applications so that the board will act as an intermediate for the communication between the two devices that follows TTL and RS-232 standard.

The TTL side is a 6-pin connector and the RS-232 side is a 9-pin female connector. The unit is powered through one of the connector pins and can run at any voltage i.e if the board is powered at 5V, the unit will convert RS232 to 5V TTL. Power the board at 3V3 V and the board will convert RS232 to 3V3 CMOS TTL. The CTS and RTS pins are also broght out for Hardware Flow control if needed by application
The Board is specially suitable for Robotic application , in which you can design Robotic PCB without Serial interface to make it compact and use this board for program downloading.

Features:
  • Compact and Ready to use design
  • High Quality Two layer PTH PCB
  • Populated  with MAX3232 IC
  • RTS/CTS pins are available at RMC Connector
  • Suitable For 5V and 3V3 interfacing voltage
  • Powered via interfacing pins
  • On Board Power LED Indicator
  • Can be used with any DC bus Voltage (5V /3V3)
  • Supports Baud Rates from 300 bps to 115200 bps

Package includes:

  • 1 x RS232 - TTL ( 5V or 3V3 ) Converter
  • 1 x RMC connector with cable(6 pin)

    • Q
    • Which side is TTL and which side is rs232?

asked by Nitish Tyagi on May 26, 2016
    • A
    • The DB9 type connector is for RS232 & the white 6 pin RMC connector on the other end is for TTL connection.

    • Q
    • Can it convert to +-12 V RS232 signals?

asked by Nitish Tyagi on May 26, 2016
    • A
    • Yes, as per specification,

Maximum RS232 voltage range of the IC can receive is
      –25V to +25V

    • Q
    • If the supply voltage given is 3.3v (TTL level) then the RS 232 level is 5v or 12v,

    • The unit is powered through one of the connector pins and can run at any voltage i.e if the board is powered at 5V, the unit will convert RS232 to 5V TTL or if powered by 3V3 and the board will convert RS232 to 3V3 CMOS TTL.

At supply voltages ranges from 3V3 to 5V , the RS232 voltage level ( "+" and "-" )will be almost constant and well with in the RS232 specification requirement.

    • Q
    • There are 6 TTL pins but the description states "The TTL side is a 4-pin connector". Does this only shift Rx, Tx, VCC and GND signals?
I need to shift PC RS232 to 3.3V TTL for 3 signals - (Rx, Tx, DCD). Would this work?

    • The TTL side have 6-pin RMC connector and the RS-232 side is a 9-pin DB9 female connector. At TTL side 6 pins are CTS, VCC, TXD, RXD,GND,RTS. The CTS and RTS pins are also brought out for Hardware Flow control if needed by application

    • We are working on to establish communication between 3.3 V level ttl signals and RS 232 signals. Can you help us.

    • This RS232 to TTL ( 5V or 3V3 ) Converter is a board with the MAX3232 transceiver IC. It facilitates serial communication between TTL and RS232 ports by providing the necessary electrical signal conversion. The TTL side is a 6-pin connector and the RS-232 side is a 9-pin female connector.
