The CAN-BUS Shield provides your Arduino or Redboard with CAN-BUS capabilities and allows you to hack your vehicle. This shield allows you to poll the ECU for information including coolant temperature, throttle position, vehicle speed, and engine rpms. You can also store this data or output it to a screen to make an in-dash project.

It uses the Microchip MCP2515 CAN controller with the MCP2551 CAN transceiver. CAN connection is via a standard 9-way sub-D for use with OBD-II cable. Ideal for automative CAN application. The shield also has a uSD card holder, serial LCD connector and connector for an EM506 GPS module. These features make this shield ideal for data logging application.

I had used this shield to read engine temperature & RPM.
It worked great, but I also made some changes in the library as well.
OBD-II will come in handy.

- CAN-BUS Shield-v13 (Sparkfun-USA) is actually designed for used with Arduino boards. Hence it is not recommanded to use CAN-BUS Shield-v13 (Sparkfun-USA) with Raspberry pi.

- Which Arduino Board is compatible with this Shield? Is this Shield compatible with Arduino Mega ADK?

- For this CAN Bus Shield the MCP2515 IC and the microSD slot both communicate with the Arduino via the SPI lines. D11 (MOSI), D12 (MISO), D13 (SCK), CAN Chip Select line is located on D10. The SD Chip Select line is connected to D9.
  In the case of Arduino Uno SPI: D10 (SS), D11 (MOSI), D12 (MISO), D13 (SCK). These pins support SPI communication using the SPI library. But in the case of Arduino Mega ADK SPI: D50 (MISO), D51 (MOSI), D52 (SCK), D53 (SS). These pins support SPI communication using the SPI library.
  Hence CAN-BUS Shield is not compatible with Arduino Mega ADK and it is compatible with Arduino Uno.
